Book your spot in Libraries’ new digital clubs

Published: 29 May 2020

Have you ever had a passionate conversation with someone over the shared love of a book?

It’s a formula as old as the written word, and it’s what makes book clubs so popular.

COVID-19 has meant residents, more than ever, are embracing digital methods of interacting, so Mackay Regional Council Libraries have created the Hanging at Home Digital Book Clubs.

Members will explore a digital feature title each month with the opportunity to connect and share their thoughts online with other club members via a Facebook group connected to Mackay Regional Council Libraries’ Facebook page.

This book club is designed for young adults (13 to 17) and adults (18+). Each age group will be introduced to a new title every month.

In June, adults will have the option to read The Birdman’s Wife by Melissa Ashley.  Young adults will have the option to read and discuss The Book Thief by Markus Zusak.

Discussion will begin on these titles in July.  They are available to read in both eBook and eAudiobook format on BorrowBox.

There is also a Kids Hanging at Home Book Club available to cater for those aged eight to 12 years.  This club is not connected to Facebook.

All book clubs are free to join.

To register your interest in these exciting new book clubs, head to www.mackay.qld.gov.au/bookclubs or simply apply to join the group on Facebook.

Residents can also start their own book club and can access a range of book club sets available for loan, each containing six copies of a title for the exclusive use of their book club.
