Community workshops delve into social media secrets

Published: 17 Sep 2020

Whether you are part of a pottery group, pony club or a progress association, social media is an essential tool you should be using.

However, delving into the digital domain of likes, follows, shares, snaps and tweets can be quite daunting for the uninitiated.

With that in mind, council is offering not-for-profit groups free social media training at a series of regional workshops.

The workshops will be hosted by the team at Rebel Nation, a local marketing firm well-known for being on the cutting edge of evolving social media trends.

Mayor Greg Williamson said the workshops were designed especially for community organisations, sporting clubs, arts groups and community service providers.

He said the free training would enable them to better promote their organisations, activities and events.

“In this day and age, every organisation can benefit from a social media presence,” Mayor Williamson said.

“At the workshops they will learn to create an event on Facebook, use Facebook paid advertising and they will pick up hints and tricks to expand their reach and audience,” he said.

“The training will also cover other social media platforms like Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram and Snapchat.”

Workshops will be held at:

  • Mirani on October 6 from 5.30pm to 7pm at the Mirani Board Room, Victoria Street, Mirani
  • Mackay on October 15 from 5.30pm to 7pm at the Jubilee Community Centre, JCC Training Room, Alfred Street, Mackay
  • Sarina on October 20 from 5.30pm to 7pm at the Sarina Board Room in the Sarina Administration Building (access via the Anzac Street car park)

Spaces are limited. RSVP by close of business October 1 by calling 4961 9596 or emailing tamara.flynn@mackay.qld.gov.au.
