Council facilities suspend public programs

Published: 19 Mar 2020

All public programs at Mackay Regional Council’s facilities have been temporarily suspended until April 30.

This includes public programs at Libraries, Artspace and indoor activities at Mackay Regional Botanic Gardens.

Special school holiday programs at council’s Youth Centres have also been suspended.

The decision has been made to ensure the safety and wellbeing of staff and the community and follows yesterday’s government Coronavirus directive relating to inside gatherings.

All facilities will remain open during normal operating hours, with increased cleaning and sanitation in all public spaces.

During the hiatus, staff will be exploring new and innovative ways to provide programs via video, podcasts and livestream.

The Botanic Gardens will also be running several self-guided school holiday activities in the outdoor spaces.

The council-supported Live Life Get Active and Active in the City free outdoor exercise sessions will also still be going ahead at this stage, with all providers taking appropriate measure and precautions.

Clients are encouraged to keep an eye on the facilities’ social media pages for updates.
