Residents can now opt-in to receive up-to-date local information during disasters.

Thanks to a new feature on council’s Emergency Dashboard, opt-in notifications will provide subscribers with the latest news including weather warnings, emergency news and road closures via email and/or text message.

Mayor Greg Williamson and chair of the Mackay Local Disaster Management Group (LDMG) said it’s important to stay informed during times of a disaster.

“With so much information and updates being released due to COVID-19, it’s important the community can receive reputable news that is relevant to Mackay and Queensland,” Cr Williamson said.

“Our region is also no stranger to severe weather events like cyclones, floods and even bushfires,” he said.

“During these events, situations can change rapidly so the service will be very useful for residents to receive localised Bureau of Meteorology (BoM) updates and road closures.

“Residents can select which notifications they want to receive and they can update their subscription at any time.”
