Extending early voting hours

Published: 17 Mar 2020

The Electoral Commission Queensland (ECQ) has extended its early voting hours at the 500 Pavilion, Mackay Showgrounds, to avoid mass static gatherings of people.

During the two weeks of early voting, the ECQ have extended their opening hours until 9pm on Wednesdays and Thursday, and next week extended hours to 6pm on Monday, Tuesday and Friday.

There will also be extraordinary voting day on Saturday, March 21, from 9am to 5pm.

Residents are encouraged to vote outside of peak periods where possible. Numbers are usually higher at lunchtime or the end of the day.

Pencils are available to all voters. However, voters are encouraged to bring their own pen or pencil with them to vote.

Polling officials will be monitoring the number of people at polling booths, as well as including additional personal hygiene precautions.

Early voting is now open, closing Friday, March 27.

Polling day on Saturday, March 28, will proceed as usual at the various polling booths through the regional council area.
