Lychee NOI picked as national runner-up

The Sarina Sugar Shed has been recognised once again on the national stage for one of its boutique, hand-crafted spirits.

After recently releasing a new Lychee NOI (Nice Over Ice), the flavoursome liqueur has picked up a Silver at the 2020 Australian Distilled Spirits Awards last week.

Sarina Sugar Shed distiller Sarah Parrott, said Lychee NOI is a unique product and winning Silver at a national level showed the quality of products distilled in our region.

“One of the judges commented on the delicate colour, nose and palate of the Lychee NOI,” Ms Parrott said.

“Another judge said the strengths of the NOI was the perfume, nose and long lychee finish,” she said.

“One of the things I personally love is the lychees are sourced locally from Rainbow Orchard, right here in Sarina.”

Mayor Greg Williamson said the win was for the Fruit Liqueur category and tops off a busy year for the unique distillery.

“Sarina Sugar Shed released their Lychee NOI in September but sold all ninety bottles in only five days,” he said.

Deputy Mayor Karen May said there was some good news for people who missed out on purchasing a bottle during the spring release.

“After the amazing response to the initial spring release of the Lychee NOI and Strawberry NOI, another batch release has been scheduled for 2021,” she said.

Due to COVID-19 event and travel restrictions, the judging of the 2020 Australian Distilled Spirits Awards was conducted online.
