Naming rights secured for Mackay’s stadium

Council and BB Print Pty Ltd signed off on a four-year deal today to cement the naming rights of Mackay’s 12,000 capacity stadium.

Mayor Greg Williamson said with naming rights of the Stadium Mackay expiring in February 29 this year, council invited tenders for the rights on January 18.

“It was tremendous to see BB Print once again throw their support behind local sport and our local community and submit the winning tender for the rights,” Cr Williamson said.

“BB Print have a long history of giving back to our community and this sponsorship demonstrates just how committed they are to the Mackay region,” he said.

Cr Williamson said council had made the decision to put the sponsorship on hold until the date that Level Three COVID-19 restrictions were lifted by Queensland Health and the facility became available for hire.

BB Print partner Gary Bye said tendering for the naming rights for another four years was a no-brainer.

He said for them it was as simple as a local-born business offering local support.

“It’s fantastic to have Stadium Mackay supported by a local business, rather than a national company with offices in capital cities,” Mr Bye said.

“We are also mad-keen football fans here at BB Print, so it’s a great way to get behind the Cutters and Rugby League in general,” he said.

Mr Bye encouraged other businesses to do what they could to invest in the local community.

“These are unprecedented times, but if we can inspire a few other Mackay region businesses to put their support into the local community, that’s a big bonus from this deal,” he said.

Home of the Mackay Cutters, BB Print Stadium Mackay has hosted big name musical acts like Kiss, Elton John, The Living End, Pete Murray and Birds of Tokyo.

The venue has also hosted the Professional Bull Riding Circuit, the North Queensland Games Opening Ceremony and various high-profile national and international sporting matches.

It boasts an international standard rectangular field and a 1600 seat grandstand and supporting facilities.  The facility also has a 300-person function area on level two.
