Outdoor recreation facilities temporarily closed

Published: 30 Mar 2020

Following the latest Australian Government COVID-19 directive, council wishes to advise the closure of all skate parks, outdoor gyms and playgrounds across the region until further notice.

Lighting will be turned off at Mackay Sugar Bowl and John Breen Park to discourage use.

Bootcamps have been reduced from 10 people to a maximum of two people, including the trainer.

Whilst all beaches will remain open, Surf Life Saving operations have been scaled back to surveillance only, resulting in no flags and a minimal patrol strength. Social distancing must be adhered to on the region’s beaches, including Platypus Beach.

If a member of the public is aware of a potential breach of self-isolation, or a business that is not complying with the new directions, they can report them through the Policelink app or contact Policelink on 131 444 for more important matters.
