Pools prepare to reopen

Published: 14 May 2020

Mackay Aquatic and Recreation Centre (ARC) and Pioneer Swim Centre will reopen to the public from Wednesday, May 20.

Due to new regulations required as part of the Queensland Government’s COVID-19 roadmap to easing restrictions, swimmers will be required to book in advance if they wish to use the facilities and attendance will be restricted to 10 people per pool.

Bookings will be limited to one-hour intervals including 45 minutes for swimming and 15 minutes for changeover.

The facilities will be open for morning sessions from 6am to 11am and afternoon sessions from 3.30pm to 7pm on weekdays. On weekends the swim centres will be open from 8am to 1pm.

Communal showers and changerooms will be closed and residents are encouraged to change in and out of their swimming suits at home, rather than at the pools.

There will also be limits of one swimmer per lane and no spectators will be allowed into the facility, except for one parent/carer per child, if necessary.

Learn to swim classes will remain suspended at this stage.

Bookings at the swim centres can be made by phone from Friday, May 15. Phone 4847 5400 for Mackay ARC bookings and 4957 5767 for Pioneer Swim Centre bookings.

The athletics complex at Mackay ARC will also be open for bookings from 6am to 11am and 3.30pm to 6.30pm on weekdays and 8am to 1pm on weekends.

Bluewater Lagoon, Memorial Swim Centre, Sarina Swim Centre and Mirani Swim Centre are all currently closed for winter maintenance.
