Don’t miss your chance to acknowledge our local heroes

Time is running out to recognise incredible individuals and groups who have gone above and beyond in 2020.

And what better recognition is there than being nominated for a 2021 Mackay Regional Council Australia Day Award?

Nominations close on Wednesday, January 6, 2021.

Community and Client Services director Angela Hays said the 2021 Mackay Regional Council Australia Day Gala would be a fantastic celebration of those people who make our region such a wonderful, vibrant place to live.

“Take the time now to say thank you to our community heroes – not only will they be recognised by their peers for their contributions, they will also be treated to an Aussie-themed two-course dinner and entertainment by Graeme Connors,” Ms Hays said.

There are eight award categories including:

Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year, Arts and Culture, Environmental Achievement, Lori Burgess Community Volunteer, Community Group, Senior Sports and Young Sports Award.

This year’s Citizen of the Year Charlie Symons said the effects of COVID-19 meant that many people in our community were doing it tough this year and he encouraged residents to nominate those people who had stepped up to lend support to those in need.

All award winners and nominees will be recognised at the Mackay Regional Council Australia Day Awards Gala at the MECC on Monday, January 25, 2021.

The Australia Day Awards are proudly sponsored by P. Comino and Sons and Tropical Exposure and are supported by Star 101.9.
