Fantastic free Party in the Park for young families

Published: 13 May 2021

This Tuesday morning (May 18) is not the time to stay at home and try and keep the kids entertained with their usual toys and activities.

It’s time to get out of the house, and head to council’s free Party in the Park event happening at the Civic Precinct in Gordon Street (lawn area between Artspace Mackay and Mackay Entertainment and Convention Centre) from 9am to 11.30am.

Mayor Greg Williamson said Party in the Park will be a free fun-filled morning for parents to connect with other parents as well as showcasing local services and organisations that can help in a variety of ways for young families.

“A fantastic opportunity to access and learn about children’s and family services that new parents may not have known existed or may not ordinarily be able to get to with the normal demands of everyday life,” Mayor Williamson said.

“A large number of service providers in the one spot with the bonus of fun activities and entertainment for the children,” he said.

“Artspace Mackay will be offering a cardboard city art activity with local artist Traci Lietzke in the park, with BMA Kidspace free toddler art program also happening inside the gallery from 10am.

“There will also be the usual crowd favourites like face painting and jumping castles.”

Move and Play Paediatric Therapy will be delivering special ‘Tummy Time’ demonstrations for parents with young babies to talk about muscle development and growth.

Kids can also try their hand at sports with Rugbytots Mackay or for something slower paced join in with The Neighbourhood Hub’s yoga for children.

Come along and interact with other young families, playgroups and providers of children’s and family services to access or find the support you were looking for or didn’t know you needed.
