Guru to transport residents to an uninhibited disco world

The idea of dancing your way through the streets of the Mackay City Centre, serenading diners and group-singing hit songs might not seem like everyone’s cup of tea – but give it a chance.

According to David Naylor (aka Guru Dudu), the Australian creator of Silent Disco Walking Tours, everything changes once you put the disco headphones on.

“You go into a little transported world where we are all in it together, and people get a shock about how uninhibited they become – it’s all about letting loose, being free and having fun,” Naylor said.

“We dance, we dance-walk, we sing, we play, we interact with people in the streets – people can’t get enough of it,” he said.  “It’s just so lovely when you see so many people happy all at once.”

The Guru Dudu Silent Disco Walking Tours team are coming to Mackay for the Mackay Festival of Arts, with tours running July 16, 17 and 18.

Naylor said the magic of the Guru Dudu team was how they created a conducive atmosphere for people to feel free to let go of their inhibitions and move freely.

“We never force anyone to act the fool, however, plenty of invitations are offered, and we find people naturally find a level of expression that suits where they are at on the day,” he said.

Mayor Greg Williamson said the silent disco tours had taken the world by storm.

“They sold out tours in the 2018 Edinburgh Fringe Festival and regularly had groups of 70 people dancing and singing their way through Edinburgh’s streets and gardens,” Mayor Williamson said.

“The Mackay tours will cater to all ages and demographics with three tours running each day, at 6pm, 7pm and 8pm,” he said.

“Headphones are supplied, and everyone listens to the same playlist of uplifting dance music from the 70s, 80s, 90s and 2000s, plus the fun commentary from the tour guide.

“These tours will certainly offer residents a way to tour our beautiful City Centre unlike anything they’ve ever experienced before.”
