Improved safety for pedestrians and students in South Mackay

As of Thursday (July 8), the intersection of Evan Street and Paradise Street will be permanently closed to through traffic.

Mayor Greg Williamson said that section of road is set to become a cul-de-sac.

“I know that many parents who have children attending schools in the area will welcome the changes to traffic,” Mayor Williamson said.

Full project works include a new cul-de-sac, connecting George Street to Evan Street, additional linking lane between English Street and George Street, upgrades to footpaths, pavements and kerb and channel as well as water main works.

Mayor Williamson said this project had been in the pipeline for some time and now with George and Milton streets intersection upgrade completed last year – this was the next piece of the puzzle.

Seaforth Civil will be completing the works on behalf of council and are expected to finish by late-October.

Residents are advised that Kemmis Skate Park will be closed to the public from Monday (July 12) due to construction works and machinery in the area.

Motorists are also asked to follow all traffic management and signage while works are completed over the next few months.
