Last chance to secure Mackay Mayor’s Charity Ball tickets

Published: 14 Apr 2021

Mackay people have shown they’re hanging out for a party to shake off the COVID-19 blues.

The 2021 Mayor’s Charity Ball, an event that was postponed in 2020 due to COVID, has sold out weeks after going on sale.

But there will be one last chance to grab some tickets, with a limited ticket release for some extra seats on offer.

Mayor Greg Williamson said the response to this year’s Mayor’s Charity Ball, which will be one of the biggest events on Mackay’s social calendar since COVID wreaked chaos last year, had been terrific.

“We’ve sold about 360 tickets – five tables more than 2019 – which at the time was the record attendance,’’ Mayor Williamson said.

“We’re now releasing some more limited seats, so there is still a chance to grab a ticket,’’ he said.

Mayor Williamson said corporate sponsorship for the 2021 Ball, to be held at the MECC under its COVID Safe Plan on May 15, had topped $50,000 and was only slightly below the 2019 sponsorship.

“This is also an amazing result given the economic impact of COVID-19,’’ he said.

“We thank all of our valued sponsors for coming onboard.”

Proceeds raised from this year’s event will be split 50-50 by Mackay’s Domestic Violence Resource Service (DVRS) and HeartKids.

A worrying trend for DVRS right now is the increasing number of young men and adolescent boys who have experienced domestic or sexual violence and abuse, and who are suffering extreme trauma impacts.

Their priority over the coming year is to provide timely and innovative trauma-informed counselling and healing supports to respond more immediately and effectively to the young men and boys in our community.

Plans include a trial of a combination of coordinated counselling responses incorporating a team of both male and female counsellors.

HeartKids is the only national not-for-profit organisation focused on enhancing the quality of life and helping secure the future of all Australians impacted by congenital/childhood heart disease (CHD). Every day in Australia eight babies are born with congenital heart disease and sadly four lives are lost each week.

Funds raised will be used to support Mackay children and families. There are about 300 individuals living in the Mackay region who are directly impacted by CHD.

Anyone wanting to purchase a ticket to attend the ball should do so as soon as possible online or by calling 4961 9777.
