MECC postpones Easter weekend events

Following the Premier’s announcement that Greater Brisbane is in lockdown for three days from 5pm Monday, April 29, the MECC have been forced to postpone their Easter weekend event, Shaun the Sheep’s Circus Show.

Based in Brisbane, Circa Contemporary Circus are the Australian contemporary circus company who are programmed by the MECC to perform the highly anticipated Shaun the Sheep’s Circus Show over three different session times.

MECC and Events acting manager, Jemma Carey, said due to their location, the company were included in the three-day lockdown, meaning they would not be able to exit Brisbane until Friday (April 2).

“The Shaun the Sheep production is one of the largest shows the MECC have presented in the theatre, with bump in alone to take three days. Given this time, in addition to the travel from Brisbane – unfortunately it logistically cannot happen,” Ms Carey said.

“It is disappointing the show cannot go ahead this weekend, but rest assured this is a postponement, not a cancellation, and we are working extremely hard to lock in favorable new dates for Mackay,” she said.

New show dates and times for Shaun the Sheep’s Circus Show will be announced following the confirmation from Circa later this week.

Circa’s second touring performance to Mackay, Peepshow, has also been affected by the three-day lockdown.

This performance, which was programmed for April 9 and 10 has also been postponed.

“This lockdown has affected their touring circuit, making these changes unavoidable. The new date for Peepshow is already confirmed – it will now take place on Friday 23rd April” Ms Carey said.

The MECC will be in touch with all impacted patrons over the coming days with options for refunds or transfers where possible. Please bear with them as they work through the next few days with a volume of changes.
