Online Sports Expo kicking goals for local clubs

Published: 12 Feb 2021

The Online Sports Expo is helping local clubs and sporting groups sign up new members.

The 2021 Sports Expo and Sign-On event, which is now in its 11th year, is completely online due to COVID-19 event restrictions.

More than 1000 people have visited the online portal so far with local residents able to explore more than 90 sport and recreation options on their digital devices.

The Online Sports Expo also includes eight pre-recorded active zone demonstrations and the videos have been very popular with the public.

Each video demonstration is available to watch on the online portal, but the videos are also being gradually shared on council’s Facebook page, with each video reaching more than 10,000 people and gaining more than 1000 views.

Council’s Sports Expo social media campaign has reached more than 50,000 people so far, with 6000 post engagements from the public (likes, comments and shares).

As part of the Sports Expo there are also more than 30 come-and-try events being held by local clubs in February.

The events are free to attend and allow the community to try a new sport or recreational pursuit for 2021.

There are also some great prizes still up for grabs, including a signed men’s Big Bash cricket bat and $500 of Wests League Club vouchers.

For a chance to win, residents need to attend a come and try event, take a photo at the event and share their photo/s on social media with the hashtag #onlinesportexpo.

There’s also a $500 Intersport voucher up for grabs for the sport or recreation club who receive the most nominations by the public via the council website.

The online portal will be live until the end of February and the competition closes 5pm, Monday, March 1.

More details, including a come-and-try event calendar, can be found on the council website at mackay.qld.gov.au/onlinesportexpo.
