Pet registration discount available until June 30

Mayor Greg Williamson said the discount period had previously run until the end of July, however it made sense to bring it into line with the end of financial year for budgeting purposes.

“Pet owners will have a whole month to register their cats and dogs and claim the discount,” he said.

“Depending on the animal and pet owner’s circumstances, the discount can range between a 30 to 50 per cent reduction in fees.

“Registering your pet is an important part of being a responsible pet owner as it ensures that if your pet goes missing, we have your most up-to-date contact details so we can return your pet to you as soon as possible.”

And, after the success of last year’s pet registration photo competition, council has decided to run the contest again in 2021.

“We are encouraging pet owners to share photos of themselves and their pets practising responsible pet ownership,” Mayor Williamson said.

“This could be anything from taking your dog for a walk on a leash, playing in an off-leash dog park, a photo of your pet sporting a collar with a council pet registration tag or pictures of them playing in an adequately-fenced yard.

“We will choose one winner each week and they will take home a $100 voucher from a local pet store.”

Pet owners should receive their pet registration renewal letters in the mail soon.

Registration fees are put towards the costs of running council’s Animal Management Centre (AMC).

Discounted pet registration fees are as follows:
Cat registration discount fee (entire cat) - if paid by June 30 - $28.20
Cat registration discount fee (desexed cat) - if paid by June 30 - $12.50
Dog registration discount fee (entire dog) - if paid by June 30 - $89.60
Dog registration discount fee (entire dog) - pensioners if paid by June 30 - $41.60
Dog registration discount fee (desexed dog) - if paid by June 30 - $38.60
Dog registration discount fee (desexed dog) - pensioners if paid by June 30 - $19.80
