Turning lane and pedestrian refuge island planned for Grendon Street

Published: 27 May 2021

Permanent traffic changes are being made to Grendon Street in North Mackay to improve pedestrian safety and traffic flow in the area.

A number of car parks will operate as a turning lane for queuing school traffic at set times of the day.

The turning lane will be in operation from 8am to 9am and 2.30pm to 3.30pm, Monday to Friday.

Some car parks will be permanently removed to allow for the installation of a pedestrian refuge island.

Nearby businesses and residents will be able to use the car parks in the designated turning lane for majority of the day outside of the dedicated school collection times.

Road works to complete these traffic changes are expected to commence from Monday (May 31).

The works will be completed over the next few weeks, with crews in the area from Monday to Friday between 6am to 6pm.

The area will be under traffic control during this time and motorists are asked to please adhere to all instructions.

Some noise and dust disturbances are expected due to the use of various plant and equipment on site, however any impact to residents will be minimised where possible.
