Artspace Mackay “foils” summer boredom

Published: 13 Dec 2019

Artspace Mackay is hosting free drop-in activities for the Summer holidays aimed at everyone from toddlers to seniors.

The North Queensland Bulk Ports Summer Holiday Art for All Ages program will run in the Artspace Mackay Workshop Room.

Activities will run from 10am to 5pm, Tuesday to Friday, and 10am to 3pm on Saturdays and Sundays.

This art activity program will allow you to experiment, create, and have fun using shiny aluminium embossing shim (robust, foil-like sheets).

The program runs from Tuesday, December 17, to Saturday, January 25.

Use simple manual embossing tools and a variety of colourful craft materials to make your own mobile, wall decoration or small metallic masterpiece to take home.

Cr Fran Mann said in the lead-up to Christmas the program would be an ideal way to create unique Christmas decorations for your tree.

“What you create is really only limited by your imagination,” Cr Mann said.

“We’d love to see a real cross section of the community in at Artspace trying their hand at some decorative metal work,” she said.

North Queensland Bulk Ports CEO Nicolas Fertin said the organisation was thrilled to be able to support Artspace Mackay’s most popular drop-in program.

“It’s great to be able to help foster creativity locally while also giving young families a great outlet in airconditioned comfort during the summer holidays,” Mr Fertin said.

“We also love the fact that by using aluminium, any offcuts or leftover materials can be sustainably recycled.”

Children under 13 years must be supervised by an adult.

Residents can drop-in anytime and stay for a few minutes or a few hours.
