Council invests thousands into its wastewater system

It comes following two separate incidents last year.

There was a dry weather bypass incident at the Sarina Water Recycling Facility and an overflow at the Whitehaven Sewerage Pump Station.

Water and Waste chief operating officer, Dr Nicole Davis, said council was committed to having the best wastewater system in place.

"The investment is primarily into improving the network overflow alarm systems to ensure faster responses to future incidents and minimise untreated sewage being released to our waterways," Dr Davis said.

“We have updated our monitoring systems and processes and staff have undergone additional training to reduce the likelihood of future overflows.”
