COVID Recovery Assistance Grants extended

Published: 10 Jul 2020

Not-for-profits in our region that have been impacted by COVID-19 have a little longer to reach out for financial assistance from council.

Groups now have until Friday, September 4, to apply for $1.2 million in special COVID-19 Recovery Assistance Grants.

More than 80 not-for-profit sporting and community groups have already been approved for grants.

Mayor Greg Williamson said the grants would provide additional income to those clubs struggling because of these unprecedented times.

“Groups and clubs can apply for up to $5000 to help them bounce back from the impacts of the pandemic,” Cr Williamson said.

“Not-for-profits, whether charitable, creative, sporting, educational or environmental, are at the foundation of what makes Mackay such a liveable region,” he said.

“And right now, a lot of them need our help – they’ve lost volunteers, they’ve lost revenue from cancelled events and they’ve had to incur expenses to make their day-to-day operations ‘COVID safe’.”

Grant applications are simply and easy and are open now via mackay.qld.gov.au/community/grants

Funding is available across three categories based on the turnover of the organisation and the level of impact from the pandemic to the values of up to $1000, up to $2000 and up to $5000.
