Cyclone Saturday – your one-stop-shop for being prepared

Mayor Greg Williamson said with the catastrophic and devastating fires currently burning across the country, taking the time to attend this weekend’s Cyclone Saturday event at Caneland Central is more important than ever.

“A state of fire emergency has been declared across 42 councils in Queensland – this includes our own backyard,” Mayor Williamson said.

“Natural disasters can happen to anyone, anywhere – so it’s crucial that each and every one of us takes the time to prepare our homes, properties and families,” he said.

“Disasters such as floods, fires and cyclones require different methods of action and preparedness.

“You need to have a number of survival plans in place to know what you are going to do in the event of a disaster striking.”

Cyclone Saturday is on from 8am to 1pm this Saturday, November 16, in Caneland Central near Sportsgirl.

Come along and speak with a diverse range of emergency experts and agencies, collect a copy of council’s free Emergency Action Guide as well as learn about our online Emergency Dashboard.

Mayor Williamson said council’s online dashboard is a great tool that residents should have saved on their digital devices.

“It provides you with vital information such as road conditions, power outages, weather warnings, river heights and a digital version of our Emergency Action Guide,” he said.

“So, while you’re doing your shopping and groceries, stop by our stall to get the information that could potentially save your life.”

Anyone who attends Cyclone Saturday can also go into the draw to win a generator.

Radio station Star FM 101.9 will be also broadcasting onsite.
