Emergency Management experts are headed to Caneland Central

Council's annual Cyclone Saturday event is happening this weekend (Saturday, November 6) from 8am to 1pm at Caneland Central.
Come along and speak with a diverse mix of emergency management experts and agencies to hear firsthand valuable information on how best to prepare for severe weather events.
Mayor Greg Williamson reminded residents that natural disasters could happen to anyone, anywhere.
“Making decisions in an emergency can be stressful and we know the best defence is preparedness,” Mayor Williamson said.
“That’s what Cyclone Saturday is all about – giving our community the opportunity to stay up to date on the latest information, practices and details like evacuation zones and council’s online Emergency Dashboard,” he said.
“The online dashboard is a tremendous tool that every resident in the Mackay region should have saved on their digital devices.
“The dashboard delivers all the vital information such as road conditions, power outages, weather warnings, river heights and a digital copy of council’s Emergency Action Guide – in the one spot.”
Residents are also being encouraged to take a survey as part of Cyclone Saturday which covers the ‘five knows’: know when to go, know where to go, know how to move, know what to take and know your hazard.
Mayor Williamson said everyone who completed the survey, would go into the draw to win a generator.
“So, this weekend while you’re doing your shopping and groceries, make sure you check out Cyclone Saturday at Caneland Central,” he said.
