Barber Drive Park is now open to the public following a $380,000 upgrade.

The upgrade work at the Blacks Beach park included the installation of a new play combo, picnic shelter, seating and a water bubbler.

Stairs were also installed to improve connectivity between Barber Drive and Chapman Court, which feature platforms allowing residents to stop and take in the view.

Councillor Ayril Paton said the work had improved both the functionality and aesthetics of the park.

“Prior to the upgrades, Barber Drive Park was a large, open, unused space,” he said.

“The stairs have improved accessibility up the hill as well as providing some wonderful elevated views, while the playground will keep the young ones entertained for hours.

“We have also tried to retain as much of the remnant vegetation as possible, which has helped enhance the scenic quality of the park.”

Cr Paton said council was committed to meeting the growing needs of the Northern Beaches community.

“There about 1080 families living in the area and there is strong demand for improved, well-connected recreational facilities in the Northern Beaches,” he said.

“There will be plenty of options with this project now complete and work progressing on the revitalisation of Camilleri Street District Park, which will include a youth hub featuring a skate park, pump track and half basketball court.”

The Barber Drive Park upgrades have been funded by the Queensland Government’s Works for Queensland program.
