Expo promises 70 stalls without hustle or bustle

The Mackay Seniors Expo, which will be held next Tuesday (October 11), has a little bit of everything for seniors without the hustle and bustle typical of some expos.

A host of healthcare professionals, like optometrists, audiologists, physios, chiropractors, nurses and pharmacists, will join service providers, sport and recreation facilitators, retailers specialising in products for seniors and retirement living organisations.

In fact, about 70 exhibitors will be in attendance from 9am to 1pm at the Showgrounds.

Mayor Greg Williamson said despite the large number of exhibitors, the Showgrounds’ Big Shed had excellent acoustics and plenty of space to allow unrestricted movement.

“This event is all about connecting seniors with the services, advice and products that are vital to them in a comfortable atmosphere,” Mayor Williamson said.

“There will be some soft background music thanks to Frank from the Mackay Ukulele Group who will be bringing some stringed instruments, but otherwise, we will keep external noise to a minimum,” he said.

“Entry is free, parking is plentiful and there’s some tremendous food options available.”

Foodies will include the “Chef on the Farm” truck, with Italian cuisine, smoked and barbecue meat, Aussie favourites and farm produce; Phoenix Place, with morning tea such as scones, pikelets and sandwiches; and two coffee vans.

The Mayor said council’s Emergency Management team would also be hosting a special stall for Get Ready Week at the expo.

“They will have giveaways and information tailored specifically for seniors,” he said.

“Make sure you stop in and see them and grab an Emergency Action Guide – it’s the must-have resource with storm season approaching.”
