Five-year rum release from Sarina Sugar Shed

Published: 14 Dec 2021

Sarina Sugar Shed is excited to announce its first ever barrel-aged five-year rum.

The limited release five-year rum, which has been masterfully blended using the triple barrel method, is a triumph for the Sugar Shed.

Mackay Regional Council Mayor Greg Williamson, who launched the five-year rum last night, said this is a release to be extremely proud of.

“Due to high demand, Sarina Sugar Shed has not previously had an opportunity to produce a five-year rum,” Mayor Williamson said.

“However, Sugar Shed distiller, Sarah, identified a limited amount of barrelled rum that could be nurtured and crafted into a five-year release, and she has done a superb job with it,” he said.

Sarina Sugar Shed distiller, Sarah Parrott, said the triple-barrel method has produced a well-balanced and exceptional Queensland rum.

“It started in ex-bourbon White American oak barrels, then seasoned in tawny port barrels, and finished in Solera Grand Muscat barrels from Seppeltsfield Winery in the Barossa Valley to produce a smooth and sophisticated palate,” Ms Parrott said.

“The result is a glorious dark golden amber colour, with oaky character lingering and a silky, luscious melange of raisins, dried fruits, caramels, spices and aged wood characteristics,” she said.

Sarina Sugar Shed coordinator Ian Mason said there were only 75 bottles available for sale.

“As a small-batch boutique distillery, we only produce and release a small number of bottles, and we expect this one to sell out very quickly, given it is a five-year rum,” Mr Mason said.

“After receiving a gold medal for our Classic rum liqueur earlier this month at the 2021 Australian Distilled Spirits Awards, we are confident this release will firmly establish Sarina Sugar Shed as a rum distiller of high quality,” he said.

The five-year rum is available in Sugar Shed’s retail store from today (Tuesday, December 14). Each 700ml bottle is individually numbered, presented in an elegant black cylinder, and is priced at $225.

There is a strict limit of one bottle per order.

The Sarina Sugar Shed is open 9am to 4pm, seven days in the Field of Dreams Parklands, Sarina.
