Free art projects to help build community resilience

If you live in Midge Point, Koumala and Eton, you have the chance to create some amazing art work and get to know your neighbours.

Council is putting on free Community Resilience Art Projects in Midge Point, Koumala and Eton this month.

Cr Fran Mann said council was putting on the free workshops to help these communities reconnect after Tropical Cyclone Debbie.

“It’s important after a natural disaster that we rebuild our communities and relationships with our neighbours.”

“Knowing your neighbour is important, especially in times of need,” Cr Mann said.

The following Community Resilience Art Projects will be held over the coming weeks:

Jam Making Workshop

All materials and ingredients will be supplied, plus you’ll go home with your own jar of freshly made jam.
Date: Saturday, March 2
Time: 9am – 12noon
Venue: Mirani State High School

Pickle Making Workshop

All materials will be supplied, and you will go home with your very own jar of pickles, complete with community designed jar stickers.

Date: Saturday, March 9
Time: 9am – 12noon
Venue: Mirani State High School

Back to the Beach Workshop

Learn how to make beautiful sculptural works from Marine Debris at the Back to the Beach Workshop.

Date: Sunday, March 10 & Sunday, March 17
Time: 10am to 3pm
Venue: Midge Point Community Hall
