Fun in the sun for everyone at Bluewater Lagoon

The refurbishment of Bluewater Lagoon’s new interactive play area has been completed and it is now open to the public, just in time for the warmer months.

The new play area has been designed for people of all-abilities and members from All Abilities Mackay were invited to be some of the first to try the new facility today (October 30).

Mayor Greg Williamson said council was committed to creating more inclusive areas for the community.

“It was great to see so many happy faces at the opening today and I’m sure it will be an area that everyone in our community can enjoy for many years to come,” he said.

“The splash pad has been designed to cater to children of all ages and abilities and a giant water bucket and waterspouts were certainly well-enjoyed by those who came along to the opening,” he said.

“After more than a decade in the sun, the equipment in the kids’ interactive play area had come to the end of its useful life.

“The new play equipment will ensure the Bluewater Lagoon remains one of our region’s premier recreation and tourist attractions.”

The water slide in the lagoon was also refurbished as part of this project and was opened to the public in September for the school holidays.
