The Gold Coast SUNS today launched its membership category built specifically for footy fans in North Queensland.

The Northern SUN membership provides locals with general admission access to the SUNS' JLT Community Series game against the Western Bulldogs at Great Barrier Reef Arena (Harrup Park) in early March and a reserved seat to the club’s Round 13 match against St Kilda in Townsville.

With the Gold Coast SUNS women’s team set to host a match in Mackay from 2019 through to 2022, all Northern SUNS members will also be guaranteed access to all games held at Great Barrier Reef Arena.

Fans who sign up as a Northern SUN member will also be granted access to one SUNS home game at Metricon Stadium in 2019 and will receive a SUNS membership pack and a members cap.

Adult memberships are available from $59.00 including GST and junior members can sign up for $29 including GST.

Other tickets for the 2019 JLT Community Series match at Great Barrier Reef Arena, to be played Sunday, March 3, will go on sale Tuesday, February 5.

Mayor Greg Williamson, who was on hand with Gold Coast SUNS recruit Corey Ellis in Mackay today, said the region was excited the Gold Coast Suns would be hosting a JLT Community Series match at the region’s top-class Great Barrier Reef Arena at Harrup Park.

“There are plenty of AFL fans in our region who will turn out to see the Suns and Melbourne’s Western Bulldogs fine-tune their 2019 preparations in this pre-season blockbuster,’’ he said.

“We’re a proud supporter through our Invest Mackay Events Attraction Program and are looking forward to the spectacle this will create for local and visiting AFL fans, as well as the national exposure it will generate for our region.”

SUNS chief executive Mark Evans said the club was excited to be able to provide affordable options for North Queensland footy fans to enjoy high quality football in the region.

"We are incredibly proud and excited to bring our club and game to North Queensland,” Evans said.

“Providing a pathway to our game through elite male and female junior academy programs, and a Northern SUN membership which provides access to watch games at the elite level, we hope encourages more Queenslanders to get involved with our game.

"We want to continue to strengthen our ties with North Queensland to help more people fall in love with our game.

The JLT Community Series match between the GC SUNS and Western Bulldogs, is supported by the Queensland Government through Tourism and Events Queensland and features on the It’s Live! in Queensland events calendar, worth $800m to the state’s economy in 2019.
