Juliet Street upgrade works set to begin

Published: 10 Aug 2021

A major road rehabilitation project for busy Juliet Street, between George and Boddington streets, is set to start.

Contractor Bellwether has taken possession of the site, with works expected to start from tomorrow (Wednesday, August 11), weather permitting.

These works will be completed in stages to minimise traffic disruptions, starting on the southern lanes in Juliet Street.

All traffic will be switched to the northern lanes whilst this work is occurring. It will continue with two-way traffic flow but will be single lane in each direction and at reduced speeds.

Traffic will then switch to the southern lanes when construction begins on the northern lanes, with the same two-way traffic configuration.

On-street parking in the northern lanes will be unavailable for the duration of the project. Traffic control and detours will be in place throughout.

Works will be undertaken between 6.30am and 6.30pm, Monday to Friday, and 7am to 5pm Saturday, when required. The project is expected to be completed late September.

This project is fully funded by the Australian Government’s Roads to Recovery program. The program is contributing $1.47 million towards this project.

Motorists are being reminded there are a series of road works scheduled for South Mackay between now and late October.

Paradise Street 2B upgrade works will also be happening on Paradise, Milton, George and Evan streets until late-October. Traffic control will be in place for the duration of these works.
