Just days left to nominate your local heroes

If you know someone who made our region a better place in 2022, then start the new year off by recognising them with an Australia Day Award nomination.

Time is rapidly running out to give them the recognition they deserve, with nominations closing this Thursday, January 5.

Mackay Regional Council Australia Day Awards pay tribute to individuals and groups who have made significant contributions to their local community and/or achieved exceptional results in sporting or cultural endeavours.

There is also an Environmental Achievement Award for amazing people, groups and organisations that enrich, protect, regenerate and champion our local environment.

There are eight award categories in total, including Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year, Arts and Culture, Environmental Achievement, Lori Burgess Community Volunteer, Community Group, Senior Sports and Young Sports Award.

To nominate someone for an Australia Day Award, visit council’s website or return a hardcopy version of the form to one of council’s Client Service Centres.

Nominating someone is a really simple process that takes a few minutes of your time and is the perfect way to kick off the year with a good deed.

All award winners and nominees will be recognised at a special awards ceremony at the Mackay Entertainment and Convention Centre on Wednesday, January 25, 2023.

The Australia Day Awards are proudly sponsored by P. Comino and Sons and Tropical Exposure and are supported by Star 101.9 Mackay and Seven Mackay.
