Kuttabul Transfer Station to close permanently

Council has decided to close the transfer station due to minimal usage and increasing operating costs.

Mayor Greg Williamson said council operated like a business and if services or facilities weren’t being well utilised, they were removed, and funds redirected where they’re needed.

“On average only eight customers used the Kuttabul Transfer Station each week, and it was costing council more than $75,000 a year to operate,” he said.

“At neighbouring transfer stations usage is about 75 customers per week.”

Mayor Williamson said resources would be reallocated to nearby transfer stations to cater for Kuttabul residents.

The opening hours will be increased at Otterburn and Kolijo Transfer stations.

Otterburn transfer station will operate from 8am to 4pm Wednesday to Sunday (changed from 9am to 3pm Thursday to Sunday) and Kolijo will operate from 12.30pm to 5pm Wednesday to Sunday (changed from 12.30pm to 5pm Thursday to Sunday) and there will be extra recycling facilities at these locations.

Council has 10 transfer stations throughout the region for residents to utilise on top of their weekly and fortnightly kerbside collection service.
