Libraries book a spot on your playlists

Our regional libraries are embracing new and exciting sensory interactions with customers.

Not only have our libraries recently launched a sensory collection which provides supportive resources for families and people with a disability, they have also just released a podcast series.

Cr Fran Mann said long gone were the days where libraries dealt solely in words and books.

“The sensory collection at Gordon White Library changes each month and a new collection of items becomes available on the Sensory Table to explore and touch,” Cr Mann said.

She said the podcast was also an exciting new way library staff could provide information and entertainment to the community.

“Podcasts are perfect for those who are vision impaired or simply prefer to consume information via audio.

“Podcasting seems to be increasing in popularity, as people can listen while they drive, walk or work in the garden, for example.

“Our first podcast episode launched in November and covers our Baby Bounce sessions.

“There’s interviews with facilitators, a child health nurse, dads and mums.

“The episode covers everything you have ever wanted to ask about the Baby Bounce programs and will be invaluable for new parents looking for easy-to-digest information.”

Cr Mann said the podcasts would be broadcast every two weeks and staff had already brainstormed more than 40 topic ideas.

“We obviously realise that not every topic will interest everyone, however, everyone will find something of interest amongst the upcoming episodes,” she said.

Future topics will include cutting-edge technologies and gadgets, cybersecurity, book reviews, health and wellbeing, movie and show reviews, interviews with local historians and family history experts, author interviews and much, much more.
