A new Mackay Regional Council Library service will allow residents to save money with their mobile devices.

The Mackay Libraries App provides a one-stop-shop for customers to access Library services.

It also lets them check the availability of items by scanning their barcodes.

Cr Fran Mann said customers really liked the scanner feature of the app because it allowed them to scan the barcodes of any books they might find in stores or at friends’ places.

“The app will then tell them the availability of the book in our Library collection,” Cr Mann said.  “Better yet, they can then reserve it on the spot or even download a digital version.”

Your library card’s barcode is also available on the app once you link it to your account, so you can use it to borrow books even if you forget you card.

Cr Mann said the app also allowed you to access online resources, branch information and enewsletters, book a computer, browse and book into library programs and even print documents.

“I also like how the inbuild barcode scanner allows you to save time by scanning your library card to log into your account,” she said.

“Once linked to your account, you can use the app to view all your details, including your loans and reservations.

“There is also a handy carousel of titles at the top of the app that advertises all the latest additions to the library catalogue.”

The Mackay Library App is available on both the Apple Store and the Google Play Store.  To download the app, simply search “Mackay Libraries” in your relevant store and follow the prompts.
