Mackay Disability Expo to be packed with providers

Never before have we seen so many passionate providers in the sector.

In fact, exhibitor spots for the coming Mackay Disability Expo filled up well before the closing date and there is now a waiting list for next year.

The 2021 Mackay Disability Expo will be held on Monday, September 6, at the Andergrove Community Centre on Celeber Drive from 9am to 1pm.

Deputy Mayor Karen May said over the last few years council’s Community Programs team had identified the need to connect residents with providers, businesses and organisations in the disability sector.

“More than 18 per cent of Queenslanders live with some form of disability and more than 10 per cent act as carers,” Cr May said.

“That means, in our region, almost 40,000 people could potentially require some level of assistance from the disability sector,” she said.

“While there are some big organisations that have been doing tremendous work for many years, with the advent of the NDIS there are lots of small, yet creative, providers with out-of-the-box offerings popping up.

“This expo is council’s way of offering local providers an inexpensive way to showcase themselves while also providing an opportunity for service providers and businesses to network and connect with each other.”

The Disability Expo will be a platform for people with disability to be informed about services, technology, aids and equipment available in the region from 34 diverse exhibitors.

Food and refreshments will be available and there will be lucky door prizes up for grabs. Entry is free.
