Marian reservoir next in line to receive makeover

Published: 10 Mar 2023

With works on the Mirani reservoir near completion, council is set to begin work on upgrades to the Marian No.1 reservoir.

Located on Mackay-Eungella Road, the reservoir provides water for the Marian township. The project will overhaul the reservoir to ensure its longevity for residents.

Mayor Greg Williamson said the refurbishment works would increase the life span of the reservoirs.

“The first stage of these improvement works is to the Mirani reservoir, which will wrap up next month,” Mayor Williamson said.

“Council is pleased with the progress made so far and we will start work on the Marian No.1 reservoir shortly,” he said.

“We are spending more than $400,000 on each reservoir to repair any cracks and leaks and to replace the external face and roof where needed.

“These works will eliminate the need to build new reservoirs, saving ratepayers money.”

The work at Marian No.1 reservoir is set to begin this week and is expected to run until the end of July 2023, weather permitting.

Work will take place Monday to Friday, between 6.30am and 6.30pm, and Saturdays when required.

Impacts to residents are expected to be minimal, with some residents possibly experiencing low water pressure at times during works.

Motorists using Mackay-Eungella Road are asked to be cautious as additional trucks will be entering and exiting the site. Motorists are advised to follow any traffic management in place.
