Memorial Pool closure explained

Published: 13 Jan 2023

Council wishes to remind patrons Memorial Pool will be closed for roof repairs from tomorrow (Saturday, January 14).

The repairs to a roof could take up to six weeks to complete.

The roof damage was not apparent during last winter’s maintenance period. The problem only emerged during heavy rain late last year.

As the pool complex is State Heritage-listed, council needed to obtain approvals for the repairs.

Those approvals came through recently, with the go-ahead given for the work to be done in January-February.

Council is unable to defer the repairs until the next winter maintenance season.

The proximity of the roof leak to electrical equipment means it is a safety issue.

Aquatic facilities available during the closure include:

  • Mackay Aquatic Recreation Complex
  • Pioneer Swim Centre
  • Sarina Swimming Pool
  • Mirani Swimming Centre
  • Bluewater Lagoon Mackay

Council apologises for any inconvenience.
