Northern Beaches park completed for Christmas

Construction of the park is now complete, including the youth hub, which was opened to the public last month.

The project is jointly funded between Mackay Regional Council and the Queensland Government who helped fund the project through a $1 million election commitment.

Cr Ross Gee said there was plenty of anticipation surrounding the project.

“The contractors have done an exceptional job completing this project in time for Christmas,” he said.

“We can’t wait to see all the families enjoying this area over the festive season.”

The upgrades include:

• A youth hub featuring a skate park, pump-track, a half basketball court and hit-up wall.
• New public amenities
• Boardwalk and footpath connectivity from Barber Drive to Camilleri Street car park
• Additional shelters, an electric barbecue, picnic tables and bench seats
• Water bubbler and rubbish bins
• Dog park

Member for Mackay Julieanne Gilbert MP, who helped turn a sod on-site earlier this year to mark the start of construction, said it was exciting to see the project take shape.

“The State Government is proud to have helped fund this job-creating project, which is creating wonderful facilities to enhance the liveability for Northern Beaches residents and visitors to the area,’’ she said.

Cr Ayril Paton said the upgrades would help meet the needs of the growing Northern Beaches population.

“With about 1080 families living in the area, there is strong demand for improved recreational facilities in the Northern Beaches,” he said.

“This project has built on existing infrastructure, while catering to a wider range of ages and providing a space for residents to enjoy leisure and social activities in the Northern Beaches.”
