Our top drop vies for international prize

All eyes will be on the small West Virginian town of Berkeley Springs this weekend, as our top drop vies for an international prize.

Water from Mackay Regional Council’s Marian Water Treatment Plant will compete in the 30^th annual Berkeley Springs International Water Tasting on Sunday (Queensland time).

The Marian water won the Ixom Best Tasting Water in Australia crown last year, making it eligible to compete in Berkeley Springs.

Our water will be one of more than 100 waters from around the globe competing in the largest water tasting competition in the world.

Council’s Director Engineering and Commercial Infrastructure, Jason Devitt, and Water Treatment Manager, Stuart Boyd, have travelled to the United States to represent Mackay at the competition.

The Berkeley Springs International Water Tasting is held at The Country Inn of Berkeley Springs, in the centre of downtown Berkeley Springs, West Virginia.

The area is home to the historic warm mineral springs in Berkeley Springs State Park.

Preliminary judging is Thursday, February 20 (WV time) and the final tasting is conducted Saturday, February 22, followed by a reception announcing winners for both bottlers and municipalities.

The award ceremony will be live streamed on the Berkeley Springs, WV Facebook page. This will be at 8pm Saturday WV time, or 11am Sunday (AEST) Queensland time.
