Pioneer River levee bank to be extended

Published: 22 Apr 2021

Council is undertaking work to reduce the risk of flooding in West Mackay by extending the levee bank on the Pioneer River.

The levee extension is located within the Mackay Community Gardens in Sarah Street, West Mackay, and will also include a new block wall and floodgate.

Fergus Builders has been contracted to complete the works on behalf of council.

Construction will begin on Tuesday, April 27, weather permitting.

The work will be carried out Monday to Friday from 6am to 6pm and is expected to be completed by late-June 2021, weather permitting.

Visitors to Mackay Community Gardens are advised to use rear parking options during construction as the car park at the entrance of the facility will be unavailable.

Minor noise and dust disturbances are expected.

Council apologises for any inconvenience caused by these necessary works.
