Planning for the future of Woodlands District Park

Published: 30 Oct 2019

Andergrove and Beaconsfield residents are being asked to provide feedback on the transformation of a large park in their community.

Council plans to combine the beautiful bushland of Woodlands Reserve with three adjoining park areas, including Broomdykes Drive Park, to create the new Woodlands District Park.

This expansive 21-hectare site boasts open green spaces, protected bushland, playground facilities, paths to run, walk and cycle and a lake with barramundi.

Cr Ayril Paton said council was in the process of developing a master plan to set the long-term vision for the new district level park and allow council to progressively implement its development.

“Our plan is to transform this parkland into a sought-after destination for leisure and social activities, while ensuring the remnant bushland continues to not only be protected, but enhanced,” Cr Paton said.

“We want residents to provide feedback and ideas about what they want to see included in the master plan.

“This could be anything from playground upgrades to shared paths, amenities and recreational facilities. All ideas will be considered.”

Residents are invited to an ideas session on Thursday, November 7, from 3.30pm to 6.30pm at Broomdykes Drive Park, Beaconsfield, to have their say.

There will be face painting, a treasure hunt tour and a free sausage sizzle for those who attend.

Residents who can’t make it to the ideas session can share their ideas at Connecting Mackay.
