Public invited back to council meetings

Published: 08 Oct 2020

Public participation will return to council meetings from next week.

Thanks to easing COVID-19 restrictions, up to five members of the public can now attend council meetings.

Mayor Greg Williamson said council was looking forward to welcoming residents back to a public forum.

“Council meetings are an excellent opportunity for the public to raise issues and concerns that are affecting the community,” he said.

“Those who want to speak on a specific topic are allocated three minutes to discuss the details of their public participation item with council.

“This allows councillors to get a better understanding on how these issues are affecting residents and prompts further investigation into possible solutions.

“Council meetings will continue to be live-streamed to council’s website, YouTube channel and via Facebook live for those who are unable to attend the meeting.”

The next ordinary meeting of council will be held on Wednesday, October 14, at 10am at MECC.

Bookings are essential and must be completed by 4.30pm on the day before the council meeting. To make a booking email councillor.support@mackay.qld.gov.au or phone 4961 9467.

Anyone wishing to take part in public participation should send a written submission to council so it can be included in the agenda.
