Residents racing to set health challenge goal

Published: 15 Sep 2020

More than 150 people have accepted council’s health challenge to turn over a new leaf this spring.

Council, in partnership with Star 101.9, launched the health challenge on the first day of spring and is excited to see so many people getting involved.

As part of the challenge, residents can set a health goal on the council website for a chance to win more than $2000 in major prizes.

Health challenge goals can include anything that’s important to the individual, from running 10km non-stop to losing a few kilos.

Major prizes for the challenge include $1000 cash for first place, a one-year gym membership for second and $500 cash for third.

There are also six Fitbit 4s as weekly prizes, which will be randomly awarded to people who hashtag #springfitmackay in photos/videos on social media while getting active.

Residents have until Friday, October 16, to register and take part in the health challenge.

After completing their nominated health goal, residents need to email “proof” to communications@mackay.qld.gov.au before the competition closes.

Proof can include photos, videos, diary entries or anything that shows evidence of completing the goal.

To help residents get active, there’s plenty of free get-active sessions available around the region, from Zumba and cross training to tennis and dragon boating.

All get-active sessions will be run in accordance with the latest government requirements for COVID19 and will have a COVID safe checklist in place.
