Sarina Sugar Shed wins state tourism awards

Sarina Sugar Shed has been recognised once again for its tourism excellence by winning two awards at the 2021 Queensland Tourism Awards in Brisbane.

The Sugar Shed was awarded Bronze for the Excellence in Food Tourism category and Bronze for the Tourism Wineries, Distilleries and Breweries category.

Deputy Mayor Cr Karen May, who attended the awards ceremony with Cr Justin Englert, Cr Belinda Hassan and representatives from council’s Economic Development and Tourism department, said these awards confirmed Sarina Sugar Shed’s reputation as a high-quality tourism facility.

“Sarina Sugar Shed has had tremendous success at the Queensland Tourism Awards over many years, and as the bar for state tourism continues to be raised, it is pleasing to see our achievements recognised again,” Cr May said.

Sarina Sugar Shed coordinator Ian Mason said these awards were even more significant due to the difficult operating conditions.

“The past 18 months have been very challenging for the tourism industry, but Sarina Sugar Shed achieved some outstanding results, and we are very happy to again be considered among the best tourism attractions in the state,” Mr Mason said.

Sarina Sugar Shed previously won Gold in the Excellence in Food Tourism category in 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019, and Silver in the Tourism Wineries, Distilleries and Breweries category in 2017, 2018 and 2019.

It was also inducted into the Queensland Tourism Awards Hall of Fame for Excellence in Food Tourism in 2017 and went on to win Silver at the Australian Tourism Awards in 2017, 2018 and 2019.
