Sharks circling Bluewater Quay on New Year’s Eve

Published: 02 Jan 2020

Pinkfong’s Baby Shark video has racked up 4.1 billion views on YouTube.

To put that into perspective – there are about 7.6 billion people in the world.

Let’s face it, the song is catchy and it’s cute.

And now Baby Shark is coming to Mackay in a free live stage show at the BB Print New Year’s Eve River Party.

Held at the Bluewater Quay from 6pm to 9pm (December 31), the party will have something for all ages.

Cr Justin Englert said there would be three hours of non-stop entertainment, plus fireworks at 9pm and midnight.

He said the aim this year was to seamlessly combine popular music sung by talented locals with Korean viral hits sung by colourful creatures.

“It’s a tricky line to walk – we promise enough Baby Shark to keep the younger audience members doo doo doing, but we also have live entertainment from local acts Jonte and 2tone to entertain more mature music lovers,” Cr Englert said.

“At just 14 years of age, Jonte Tupaea already has six years performing under his belt,” he said.

“He specialises in smooth, groovy pop music and has an endless pool of potential.

“2tone’s Dana and Jo are cousins brought together by a love of music and performing.

“This pair perform a lot of pop and rock classics from the 80s and 90s and they do an amazing job with sensational vocals and really great harmony.”

Cr Englert said the music wasn’t the only drawcard.

“We have free children’s amusements and face painting,” he said.

“You can also wander around the Bluewater Quay precinct and experience a wide range of delicious food and a variety of market stalls.”

BB Print New Year’s Eve River Party is brought to you by council and the MECC and is sponsored by BB Print.
