Show holiday 2020 date approved

Council’s request to move the 2020 Mackay Show public holiday from Thursday, June 18, to Friday, August 14, has been officially approved.

The approval was a formality given the State Government had suggested councils wanting to move their show holidays this year apply for Friday, August 14, to coincide with Brisbane's public holiday for the Ekka (note, the Ekka, like other regional shows, isn't being held due to COVID-19).

The aim is to help create a long weekend throughout the state in a bid to boost tourism at a time when COVID-19 restrictions will have eased.

Council has now received written confirmation of the approval from Minister for Education and Industrial Relations Grace Grace.
