WBBL teams to turn up the Heat in Mackay again

Mackay will host the Brisbane Heat WBBL team for the third season in a row.

They will take on the Adelaide Strikers on November 2 and 3 at Harrup Park’s Great Barrier Reef Arena.

Brisbane Heat general manager Andrew McShea joined Mayor Greg Williamson at the venue today for the announcement.

The WBBL will be staged from October to December for the first time as it moves away from the KFC Big Bash League time slot to its own distinct window on the summer of cricket calendar.

The Brisbane Heat’s WBBL excursions to Mackay in the past two seasons have been hugely successful. A crowd of 5650 for the game against the Adelaide Strikers last season was a record for a stand-alone fixture.

Mayor Greg Williamson said it was a big win for cricket fans to have the WBBL heading back to Mackay this year for two matches at Harrup Park.

“It’s great to be able to help bring the Heat back to our region with our Invest Mackay Events Attraction Program,” Cr Williamson said.

“For young cricketers to be able to watch their heroes playing right here in our backyard is just tremendous and the sports tourism benefits have amazing flow-on effects for our businesses and accommodation providers,” he said.

“And what better place to watch a top-class game of cricket than the Great Barrier Reef Area at Harrup Park – this facility really is a credit to our region and is a large part of the reason we are able to attract such high-profile matches.
