Social media guidelines

Council’s Facebook page exists to provide information on council initiatives, facilities, events and programs. It is managed by the Corporate Communications Program.

We consider this as an important tool for council to actively engage with our community, providing a place for discussion and an active exchange of ideas.

We endeavour to reply, where possible, within a few days, but should you have a formal request or enquiry, we encourage you contact council on 1300 622 529 or lodge a Customer Request via online services.

Operating guidelines of our Facebook page

We support the Facebook Statement of Rights and Responsibilities and related Facebook policies, and we request that visitors to our page to do the same.

While your comments are welcome and we encourage the sharing of diverse opinions, we want everyone to enjoy using our social media accounts and would appreciate all contributors to treat others with respect and courtesy in doing so.

We therefore do moderate postings where needed and ask that you do not post comments that are likely to:

  • Harass, abuse or threaten or personally attack others.
  • Offend others, particularly in reference to an individual’s race, age, gender, sexuality, political leaning, religion or disability.
  • Be intentionally false or misleading.
  • Be unlawful or encourage or condone unlawful activity.
  • Use obscene or offensive language or emojis/GIFS/images.
  • Be inappropriate, off-topic, repetitive on the post or across the forum or intentionally inflammatory.
  • Promote anything that may constitute spam, such as commercial interests, solicitations, advertisements or endorsements of any non-governmental agency.

If our operating guidelines are not followed, we will moderate and potentially remove your comment.

Continual breaches of our operating guidelines may result in a ban from our social media accounts being imposed.

Council also reserves the right to close comments on posts that are not adhering to our operating guidelines and are detrimental to the enjoyment of the forum by others.

We appreciate you may wish to share your concerns, ongoing issues or complaints concerning council on social media, they are however, best managed by a lodging a Customer Service Request or an official complaint so that they can be addressed and followed up with the appropriate council departments.
