2021 National Trust Heritage Festival in Mackay

Council’s Character and Heritage Advisory Committee, the Art Deco Society, council’s Planning team and local historians have collaborated to bring our region a jampacked month of history and heritage.

The theme for the 2021 National Trust Heritage Festival, taking place from April 18 to May 19, 2021, is “Our Heritage for the Future”.

The festival will include highlights such as the launch of new Pioneer Valley and Sarina Heritage Driving Tours, a Heritage Bus Tour, virtual tours of our cemetery and Greenmount Homestead’s gardens and much more.

Take the self-guided City Centre Heritage Trail

Take a step back in time in the footsteps of our locals with this guided city centre heritage tour.

Greenmount Homestead virtual tour

Using exciting new technology, the Museums team have created an immersive 3D tour that allows you to experience the gardens like never before!  The story of the Greenmount gardens is shared through photographs taken from the extensive archive left by the Cook family, and showcases the story of the gardens’ past, present and future.

Pioneer Valley heritage driving trail

This driving trail will take about four hours at a leisurely pace, but there will be plenty of opportunities to explore the present, interact with all our region has to offer and stop along the way for lunch, a snack or a beverage.

Discover Sarina self-guided heritage trail

Adventure into the past, in the footsteps of our locals and enjoy a series of self-guided heritage discovery trails from around our region. The heritage trails are presented on a digital platform, displaying multi-media including some fantastic historic images and fascinating stories of our rich historic and cultural heritage.
