COVID-19 council service changes

The following directions and advice are in place for Mackay Regional Council facilities and venues.

> Face masks

Face masks must be worn indoors everywhere in Queensland, except in your own home or accommodation, and where it is unsafe, such as while doing strenuous exercise. This includes indoor workplaces, hospitality venues, libraries, indoor stadiums for example.

> Vaccination status direction for council facilities and venues

The current Queensland Government imposed restrictions, Public Health and Social Measures linked to vaccination status Direction, including the vaccine mandate, have significantly impacted Mackay Regional Council’s operations and the services provided to community.

The Queensland Government has mandated that, all workers who enter, visit, or provide services in any restricted business or activity must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

> Public programs paused amid COVID-19 surge

Due to coronavirus and the current public health advice to minimise movements and avoid unnecessary gatherings within the community, some council services have been temporarily impacted.

Mackay Regional Council Libraries Branches will remain open and will continue to operate as usual, however, the book sale and all public programs, including children’s programs, have been postponed until further notice.
Artspace Mackay Open to gallery visitors, but all public programs, including artists talks and school holiday programs will not be going ahead in their current format. The Artspace Mackay team are exploring options to deliver some programs digitally and residents are encouraged to visit their Facebook page for updates.
Sarina Youth Centre Public programs are suspended; however, the centre is still open for individual support via appointment.  For details, head to the Sarina Youth Centre Facebook page.
MECC All events and shows at the MECC will continue in accordance with Queensland Government advice regarding indoor entertainment venues.
Sports and Recreation Council’s popular outdoor fitness programs – Activate Mackay Region and Active in the Regions – will continue to be run in line with advice around essential exercise activities.
